Research Focus
My principal research interest is the investigation of materials with novel physical properties like superconductivity, ferroelectricity, ferromagnetism, multiferroicity etc. using scanning probe microscopy and transport spectroscopy at low temperatures and high magnetic fields. In superconductors, I study the nature of the superconducting gap(s) by point-contact spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy at low temperatures. I also investigate the physics of the magnetic vortices in unconventional superconductors by magnetic force microscopy at low temperatures and in magnetic fields. Using these techniques one can also probe the ferromagnetic and ferroelectric materials.
Multiferroics are the materials where more than one type of physical order exists (for example, ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism). I study the coupling between different order parameters in the naturally occurring multiferroics as well as in the artificial multiferroics where two different materials exhibiting two different order parameters are artificially integrated using a combination of thin film deposition and lithographic techniques.
