Biotransformation of Recalcitrant Toxic Compounds using Aerobic Granular Sludge Technology
Dr. Sachin Kumar Tomar
Location : Online
Abstract: The study focuses on the development of aerobic granules for treating complex industrial wastewaters containing phenol, thiocyanate, ammonia-nitrogen, pyridine, and indole. These wastewaters require effective treatment before disposal due to their toxicity. Traditional methods are costly, while biological processes face inhibition issues. Aerobic granular sludge (AGS) technology offers promise due to its settling properties and capacity to handle high toxic loads. The study optimized operational parameters in sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) to enhance AGS performance. Novel aspects include simultaneous removal of multiple pollutants and investigation into rapid granulation and AGS tolerance to high phenol concentrations.
