Abstract: Layered van der Waals (vdW) magnetic materials are of great interest in fundamental condensed-matter physics research [1] and potential applications in spintronics and device physics. Raman spectroscopy has been established as an valuable tool for studying magnetic vdW materials, enabling the reliable monitoring of the magnetic ordering, which is often difficult to probe atomically thin and small-size samples by other available techniques. In this talk, I shall discuss how the Raman scattering technique can be an effective tool to investigate the magnetic transitions and magnon- phonon interaction in an antiferromagnetic material FePS3 by varying environmental conditions such as magnetic field (up to 30T), temperature (down to 5K) and pressure (up to 8 GPa) [2]. Extreme conditions are useful to tune the interactions and
dimensionality of the lattice and to explore how the magnetic and electronic properties of the material evolve, while Raman spectroscopy probes the subtle changes.
