Abstract: My research interest involves in monitoring and risk assessment of emerging contaminants in the aquatic ecosystem. In this field, I have been investigated the ecotoxicological impacts of varieties of xenobiotic compounds like Pharmaceutical drugs, Personal care products, Plastic residues, Nanomaterials, PAHs, Polychlorinated biphenyls, Pesticides, Metals, EDCs etc., at environmentally relevant concentrations on freshwater and marine organisms using different types of Biomarkers like biochemical, hormonal, antioxidant, ionoregulatory, hematological, enzymological, molecular and histo-pathological responses etc. In recent years, many xenobiotic chemicals are simply discharged into the nearby aquatic ecosystems. These emerging pollutants may affect the biological systems of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Further, it may act on molecules, cells and organs and pose a serious threat to aquatic organisms through unexpected modes of action. Therefore, their potential effects on all segments of aquatic systems, fauna and flora warrant the biomonitoring of these emerging environmental contaminants. Because of continuous discharge of toxic chemicals and higher concentrations of their residues may be expected in surface water and groundwater. Taken together, it has been significantly considered that more extensive research activities are needed to monitor the xenobiotic compounds in the aquatic environment and non-target organisms.
